A Delightful Event for a Noble Cause
This year, we have the immense pleasure of supporting The Whitechapel Centre charity by organizing our main charity event, the Afternoon Tea Party, held on Tuesday, 29th April, at St Michaels Church in Blundellsands. The event turned out to be a splendid affair, drawing in community members and devoted supporters alike, all united for a noble cause.
Setting the Stage: Preparation and Volunteers
The preparation for the event began the night before, with a dedicated team of volunteers who swung into action, transforming the venue in a little over half an hour. The smooth and efficient setup was a testament to their hard work and coordination. Among these volunteers were members of the Dream team, who on the day of the event acted as gracious hosts to two of the ten beautifully arranged tables.
The Event Unfolds: An Afternoon of Delight
As the event commenced, the atmosphere was filled with the aroma of freshly brewed tea and coffee, creating a warm and inviting ambiance for the attendees. Sixty tickets were sold, and a delightful afternoon beckoned the guests.
The guests were treated to a fine selection of sandwiches and wraps, carefully crafted to please every palate. Following the savoury delights, an array of mini cakes was served, tempting everyone with their decadent flavours. The popularity of the refreshments was evident, as very little was left by the end of the event.
Supporting the Cause: Toni’s Enlightening Talk
Between the savoury and sweet courses, Toni from The Whitechapel Centre took the stage to enlighten the audience about the charity’s mission, the people they help, and how the funds raised from events like ours are utilized. Toni’s insightful talk brought the charity’s work to the forefront, deepening the attendees’ understanding and appreciation of the cause they were supporting.
Bagging a Bargain: The Donation Tables
In addition to the delightful refreshments, attendees had the opportunity to peruse a wide selection of new and unused items, generously donated by students over the past few months. These donations filled four large tables, offering a variety of bargains for the guests. Many left with bulging bags, pleased with their finds.
The remaining items were taken by Toni to be used either with the homeless or passed on to The Whitechapel Centre’s charity shops. While we do not know the exact amount that will be raised from these donations, we are confident that they will contribute significantly to the charity’s efforts. Adding to the excitement of the day, we also held a raffle featuring items generously donated by local businesses. We extend our heartfelt thanks to The Everyman Playhouse, The Philharmonic Hall, The Liverpool Tea Warehouse, and Booths for their kind contributions. As a special highlight, Everton FC donated a pennant signed by David Moyes, which was auctioned off to enthusiastic bidders.
The Grand Total: A Successful Fundraiser
I am delighted to announce that the grand total raised at this event is an astounding £1402. This incredible amount is a testament to the generosity and support of everyone involved. I extend my heartfelt thanks to all who contributed to making this event a resounding success.
